Transmission Fluid Drain and Fill (Maintenance)

CAUTION: Use correct transmission fluid only. Failure to use the proper fluid may result in transmission internal damage.

The vehicle must be level.
Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
Remove the drain plug (1), drain plug gasket (2) and overflow tube (3) and drain transmission fluid into a suitable container.

Install the drain plug (1) with the OLD drain plug gasket (2).
Press the tab (1) using a small flat-bladed screwdriver and then remove the fill cap (2).

Pour approximately 3.0L (3.17 qt) of the transmission fluid into the charging pipe (3).
Start the engine.
Move through the selector lever positions with the foot brake depressed. Switch the selector lever from position P to L and back to P. Hold each position for at least 5 seconds.
Stop the engine.
Remove the drain plug and then drain transmission fluid from the oil pan.
Repeat the above steps 4 - 10 (one time).
Install the overflow tube (3) and tighten to 15 N.m (11 lb ft)

CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .
Install the drain plug (1) with a NEW drain plug gasket (2) and tighten to 34 N.m (25 lb ft)
Pour approximately 3.0L (3.17 qt) of the transmission fluid into the charging pipe.
Install the fill cap.
Check the ATF level. Refer to Transmission Fluid Level and Condition Check .
