Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2017 Chevrolet Spark. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly connector.
  2. Test for less than 10 Ω between the low reference circuit terminal 18 and chassis ground.
    NOTE:
    • When test probing harness terminals, it is imperative to use the proper test probe from the most current version of the J-35616  GM-Approved Terminal Test Kit. Use of an improper test probe may deform the terminal, resulting in intermittent open conditions.
    • Testing for steps 2 - 5 is performed on the Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly harness connector using the J-35616-2A  GY probe.
    • If 10 Ω or greater
    1. Disconnect the X2 harness connector at the K71 Transmission Control Module.
    2. Test for less than 10 Ω in the low reference circuit end to end.
      • If 10 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 10 Ω, replace the K71 Transmission Control Module.
    • If less than 10 Ω
  3. Engine at Idle. Parking brake engaged. Transmission in Neutral and not in Fail Safe Mode.
  4. Test for 0.75 - 1.00 V between the signal circuit terminal 14 and chassis ground.
    • If less than 0.75 V
    1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X2 harness connector at the K71 Transmission Control Module.
    2. Test for less than 10 Ω in the signal circuit end to end.
      • If 10 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 10 Ω
    3. Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit terminal 14 and chassis ground.
      • If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground in the circuit.
      • If infinite resistance
    4. Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit terminal 14 and all other terminals of Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly harness connector.
      • If less than infinite resistance, repair the shorted together condition in the affected circuits.
      • If infinite resistance, replace the K71 Transmission Control Module.
    • If greater than 1.00 V
    1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X2 harness connector at the K71 Transmission Control Module.
    • If between 0.75 - 1.00 V
  5. Test for 0.75 - 1.00 V between the signal circuit terminal 14 and the low reference circuit terminal 18.
    • If less than 0.75 V

Test for infinite resistance between the low reference circuit terminal 18 and all other terminals of the Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly harness connector.

    • If less than infinite resistance, repair the shorted together condition in the affected circuits.
    • If infinite resistance, replace the K71 Transmission Control Module.
    • If greater than 1.00 V

Test for infinite resistance between the low reference circuit terminal 18 and all other terminals of the Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly harness connector.

    • If less than infinite resistance, repair the shorted together condition in the affected circuits.
    • If infinite resistance, replace the K71 Transmission Control Module.
    • If between 0.75 - 1.00 V
  6. Replace the Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly.
