Circuit/System Description
The B296A Transmission Pulley Speed Sensor - Primary also known as the Input Speed Sensor, also known as Primary Pulley Speed Sensor, is a three wire hall-effect sensor. The primary pulley speed sensor provides primary pulley speed information to the transmission control module. The primary pulley speed sensor is mounted on the upper left front of the transmission near the B81 Park Neutral Position Switch facing the primary pulley reluctor wheel. As the primary pulley rotates, the toothed rotor wheel passes through the magnetic field of the primary pulley speed sensor and produces an AC voltage. The AC voltage level and the number of pulses increase as the speed of the pulley increases. The transmission control module converts the voltage to primary pulley speed. The transmission control module uses the primary pulley speed to control engine torque, torque converter lock-up and determine pulley ratios. The transmission control module supplies a B+ (+0.0/ - 2.0 V) sensor signal circuit, an Ignition 1 voltage circuit and a low reference circuit to the primary pulley speed sensor.
