Circuit/System Testing
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2017 Chevrolet Spark. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Ignition Off
- Disconnect the electrical connector: Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly
- Test for less than 10 Ω between the test points: Low Reference circuit terminal 18 & GroundNOTE:
- When test probing harness terminals, it is imperative to use the proper test probe from the most current version of the J-35616 GM-Approved Terminal Test Kit. Use of an improper test probe may deform the terminal, resulting in intermittent open conditions.
- Testing for steps 2 - 5 is performed on the Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly harness connector using the GY probe J-35616-2A.
- Chassis ground to battery ground 25 - 35 Ω.
- If 10 Ω or greater
- Disconnect the X2 harness connector at the K71 Transmission Control Module.
- Test for less than 10 Ω in the low reference circuit end to end.
- If 10 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 10 Ω, replace the transmission control module.
- If less than 10 Ω
- Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
- Test for 2.4 to 2.8 V between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 12 & Ground
- If less than 2.4 V
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the X2 harness connector at the K71 Transmission Control Module.
- Test for less than 10 Ω in the Sensor Signal circuit end to end.
- If 10 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 10 Ω.
- Test for infinite resistance between the Sensor Signal circuit terminal 12 and chassis ground.
- If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground in the circuit.
- If infinite resistance.
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 12 and all other terminals of the Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly harness connector.
- If less than infinite resistance, repair the shorted together condition in the affected circuits.
- If infinite resistance, test the K71 Transmission Control Module. Refer to Component Testing - K71 Transmission Control Module.
- If greater than 2.8 V
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the X2 harness connector at the K71 Transmission Control Module.
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 12 and all other terminals of the Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly harness connector.
- If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short between the circuits.
- If infinite resistance - Test or replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module. Refer to Component Testing - K71 Transmission Control Module
- If between 2.4 and 2.8 V
- Test for 2.4 and 2.8 V between the test points: Signal circuit terminal 12 & Low Reference circuit terminal 18
- If less than 2.4 V
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points: Low Reference terminal 18 and all other terminals of the Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly harness connector.
- If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short between the circuits.
- If infinite resistance - Test or replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module. Refer to Component Testing - K71 Transmission Control Module
- If greater than 2.8 V
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points: Low Reference terminal 18 and all other terminals of the Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly harness connector.
- If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short between the circuits.
- If infinite resistance - Test or replace the component: K71 Transmission Control Module Refer to Component Testing - K71 Transmission Control Module
- If between 2.4 and 2.8 V
- All OK.
