Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2017 Chevrolet Spark. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Ignition OFF and all vehicle systems Off, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate Q6 Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve. It may take up to 2 min for all vehicle systems to power down.
  2. Test for less than 5 Ω between the low reference circuit terminal 2 or B and ground.
    • If 5 Ω or greater 
    1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K20 Engine Control Module.
    2. Test for less than 2 Ω in the low reference circuit end to end.
      • If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 Ω, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
    • If less than 5 Ω 
  3. Ignition ON.
  4. NOTE:

    A test lamp must be used for this test. The control circuit is pulled-up to a low current voltage, 1.5 - 3.5 V on the control circuit is normal.

  5. Verify that a test lamp does not illuminate between the control circuit terminal 1 or A and ground.
    • If the test lamp illuminates 
    1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K20 Engine Control Module, Ignition ON.
    2. Test for less than 1 V between the control circuit and ground.
    • If 1 V or greater, repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
    • If less than 1 V, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
    • If the test lamp does not illuminate 
  6. Remove the test lamp.
  7. Connect a digital multimeter (DMM) black lead to the control circuit terminal 1 or A and the red lead to B+. Set the DMM on the diode setting. Command the Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid On and Off with a scan tool.
  8. Verify the DMM display transitions from OL when commanded Off to less than 1 V when commanded On.
    • If the DMM does not transition as specified 
    1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K20 Engine Control Module.
    2. Test for less than 2 Ω in the control circuit end to end.
      • If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open/high resistance or short to ground in the circuit
      • If less than 2 Ω, replace the K20 Engine Control Module
    • If the DMM transitions as specified 
  9. Test or replace the Q6 Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve.
