Removal Procedure

- Relieve the fuel pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
- Drain the fuel tank. Refer to Fuel Tank Draining .
- Disconnect the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
- Remove the exhaust muffler. Refer to Exhaust Muffler Replacement (L5Q)Exhaust Muffler Replacement (LV7) .
- Disconnect the fuel tank wiring harness connector and remove the fuel tank wiring harness (1).
WARNING: Do not breathe the air through the EVAP component tubes or hoses. The fuel vapors inside the EVAP components may cause personal injury.
- Loosen the fuel tank filler hose clamp (2) and the fuel tank filler pipe from the fuel tank (4).
- Disconnect the fuel feed/evaporative emission separator pipe (3) from the fuel tank filler pipe. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
- Disconnect the evaporative emission canister purge pipe (1) from the evaporative emission pipe. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .

CAUTION: Refer to Fuel and Evaporative Emission Hose/Pipe Connection Cleaning Caution . - Disconnect the fuel feed/evaporative emission separator hose (2) from the fuel feed pipe. Refer to Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
- Place a suitable adjustable jack under the fuel tank.
WARNING: To help avoid personal injury, always use jack stands when you are working on or under any vehicle that is supported only by a jack.CAUTION: When you are jacking or lifting a vehicle at the frame side rails or other prescribed lift points, be certain that the lift pads do not contact the catalytic converter, the brake pipes or the fuel lines. If such contact occurs, vehicle damage or unsatisfactory vehicle performance may result.
- Remove the 4 fuel tank strap bolts (2).CAUTION: Do not bend the fuel tank straps. Bending the fuel tank straps may cause damage to the straps.
- Remove the 2 fuel tank straps (1).
- Using the adjustable jack, slowly lower and remove the fuel tank (3).NOTE: Second technician required.NOTE: Retract the jack.
- If replacing the fuel tank, perform the following steps. Otherwise, proceed to the Installation Procedure.
