Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the camshaft cover. Refer to Camshaft Cover Replacement (L5Q)Camshaft Cover Replacement (LV7) .
  2. Adjust the engine to cylinder 1 top dead center (TDC) of combustion stroke. Set crankshaft in direction of engine rotation until the markings (1, 2) line up. Rotate at the crankshaft balancer bolt (3).

  3. Check camshaft position actuator marks.

    NOTE: The actuator marks stands at 12 O'clock, if the cylinder 1 are on top dead center.
  4. Remove the timing chain upper guide. Refer to Timing Chain Upper Guide Replacement .
  5. Install the EN 51632  camshaft locking tool (1).

  6. Mark the position of the timing chain to camshaft gear.
  7. Loosen the exhaust camshaft position actuator bolt (2).
  8. Loosen the intake camshaft position actuator bolt (3).
  9. Install the EN-51691-1  timing chain retainer (1) to the exhaust side camshaft timing chain (3) and hand tighten the bolt.

  10. Loosely install the EN-51691-2  retainer (2) to the intake side camshaft timing chain (3).
  11. Hand tighten the thumb wheels (4, 5) securely.
  12. Tighten the exhaust side timing chain retainer bolt (6) to 5 N.m (44 lb in).
    CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .
  13. Remove the EN 51632  camshaft locking tool.
  14. Install a suitable wrench (1) to the intake camshaft.

  15. Rotate the wrench clockwise to put some pressure on the timing chain tensioner.
  16. Hold the wrench 20 - 30 seconds.
    NOTE: Hold the wrench so that the pressure of the timing chain tensioner can release slowly.
  17. Fix the EN-51397-2  retainer (1) to the intake side of the camshaft timing chain.

  18. Tighten the bolt (2) of the EN-51397-2  retainer to 5 N.m (44 lb in).
  19. Remove the wrench.
  20. Ensure that enough chain slack is gained between the camshaft position actuators.

    NOTE: The timing chain can be moved up and down between both camshaft position actuators.
  21. If not enough slack is gained between the camshaft position actuators, remove the tension of the timing chain tensioner. Refer to Camshaft Timing Chain Adjustment (L5Q)Camshaft Timing Chain Adjustment (LV7) .
  22. Remove the intake camshaft position actuator bolt (1).

  23. Remove the intake camshaft position actuator (2).
    NOTE: The camshaft timing chain will be held by the EN 51691  retainer.
  24. Remove the exhaust camshaft position actuator bolt (1).

  25. Remove the exhaust camshaft position actuator (2).
    NOTE: The camshaft timing chain will be held by the EN 51691  retainer.
