Installation Procedure

  1. Locate the camshaft position actuator dowel pin (1).

  2. The camshaft position actuators must be installed on the marked position (2) of the camshaft timing chain (1).

  3. Install the EN 51632  camshaft locking tool.

  4. Install the exhaust camshaft position actuator (2).

  5. Install the exhaust camshaft position actuator bolt (1) and tighten to:
    CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .
    CAUTION: Refer to Torque-to-Yield Fastener Caution .
    NOTE: Counterhold the camshaft with a suitable tool.
    1. First pass to 20 N.m (15 lb ft)
    2. Final pass to an additional 90 degrees using the EN-45059  meter
  6. Install the intake camshaft position actuator (2).

  7. If not enough slack on camshaft timing chain is present to install the intake camshaft actuator remove the tension of the timing chain tensioner. Refer to Camshaft Timing Chain Adjustment (L5Q)Camshaft Timing Chain Adjustment (LV7) .
  8. Install the intake camshaft position actuator bolt (1) and tighten to:
    CAUTION: Refer to Torque-to-Yield Fastener Caution .
    1. First pass to 20 N.m (15 lb ft)
    2. Final pass to an additional 90 degrees using the EN-45059  meter
  9. Remove the EN 51632  camshaft locking tool.
  10. Remove the EN 51691  retainer.

  11. Install the timing chain upper guide. Refer to Timing Chain Upper Guide Replacement .
  12. Check the position of the crankshaft, camshaft and camshaft position actuator.
  13. Turn crankshaft 720 degrees in the direction of engine rotation by the crankshaft balancer bolt (3).

  14. Adjust the engine to cylinder 1 TDC of combustion stroke. Set crankshaft in direction of engine rotation until the markings (1, 2) line up. Rotate at the crankshaft balancer bolt (3).
  15. Install the EN 51632  camshaft locking tool (1).

  16. If the EN 51632  camshaft locking tool (1) can be installed, the engine timing is properly adjusted.
  17. Install the camshaft cover. Refer to Camshaft Cover Replacement (L5Q)Camshaft Cover Replacement (LV7) .
