Removal Procedure

WARNING: When replacing either a steering wheel or driver airbag, it is mandatory that both components are sourced from the same country. Parts from different countries are not interchangeable and may cause a malfunction of the air bag system causing personal injury.

WARNING: Refer to SIR Inflator Module Handling and Storage Warning .

WARNING: Refer to SIR Warning .

Disable the supplemental inflatable restraint (SIR) system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
Lower the steering column and move to the maximum rear end position.
Remove the steering column upper trim cover. Refer to Steering Column Upper Trim Cover Replacement .
To remove the airbag steering wheel module, push the spring retainers in the direction of the arrows.

Rotate the steering wheel in the 90 degrees to the right.

Insert a small flathead screwdriver on the back of the steering wheel.
TIP: The end tip of flathead screwdriver should be vertical. Refer to the upper picture.

Pull the screwdriver in the opposite direction of the steering column to push the spring retainer.

Rotate the steering wheel in the 90 degrees to the left.

Insert a small flathead screwdriver on the back of the steering wheel.

Pull the screwdriver in the opposite direction of the steering column to push the spring retainer.

Rotate the steering wheel in the 180 degrees.

TIP: The end tip of flathead screwdriver should be horizontal. Refer to the upper picture.
Insert a small flathead screwdriver through the service openings on the back of the steering wheel.

Pull the screwdriver in the opposite direction of the steering column to push the spring retainer.

Disconnect the electrical connectors.

Remove the airbag steering wheel module (1).
