Installation Procedure

  1. Fig 1: Identifying Intake Camshaft, Intake Camshaft Bearing Caps And Bolts

    Coat the intake camshaft with lubricant. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers (Europe L5Q)Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers (North America L5Q) .

  2. Install the intake camshaft in the cylinder head.
  3. Ensure that the camshaft notch at the front of the camshaft is in the 12 O'clock position before installing the camshaft caps.
    4. NOTE:

    Observe the markings on the bearing caps. Each bearing cap is market in order to identify its location. Ensure the caps are installed in the original location and position.

  4. Lubricate the 5 camshaft bearing caps (2, 4) and the 10 camshaft bearing cap bolts (1, 3). Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers (Europe L5Q)Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers (North America L5Q) .
  5. Install the camshaft bearing cap (4).
  6. Install the camshaft bearing front cap (2).
  7. Loosely install the 10 camshaft bearing cap bolts (1, 3) by hand.

    Pre-Tighten the camshaft bearing cap bolts in sequence as shown to 6 N.m (53 lb in)

  9. Repeat pre-tightening until all bolts keep the torque of 6 N.m (53 lb in) and the gap at bearing cap is closed.
  10. Tighten the bearing cap bolts in sequence as shown to 12 N.m (106 lb in).
  11. Install the camshaft position actuator. Refer to Camshaft Position Actuator Replacement .
