Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the hydraulic valve lash adjuster arm. Refer to Hydraulic Valve Lash Adjuster Arm Replacement .

    NOTE:

    Many internal engine components will develop specific wear patterns on their friction surfaces.

    Components MUST be separated, marked, or organized in a way to ensure installation to their original location and position. Take precautions in order to prevent interchanging of parts.

  3. Tag or mark each part immediately when removed. Indicate location, direction, or orientation when necessary.
  4. Install the 2 EN-50717-1  stands (1, 4) to the cylinder head and fix them with the screws (5, 6).
  5. Install the 2 EN-50717-3  rods (2) to the EN-50717-1  stands (1, 4).
  6. Install the EN-50717-2  compressor (3) to the EN-50717-3  rods (2).
  7. Position the EN-50717-2  compressor (3) so that its adapter proper contacts the valve spring retainer and pretension the compressor.

    WARNING:

    Compressed valve springs have high tension against the valve spring compressor. Valve springs that are not properly compressed by or released from the valve spring compressor can be ejected from the valve spring compressor with intense force. Use care when compressing or releasing the valve spring with the valve spring compressor and when removing or installing the valve stem keys. Failing to use care may cause personal injury.

    CAUTION:

    Do not compress the valve springs less than 25.0 mm (0.984 in). Contact between the valve spring retainer and the valve stem oil seal can cause potential valve stem oil seal damage.

    Apply pressure to the EN-50717-2  compressor to push down the vale spring retainer (1) and compress the valve spring (3) until the valve keys (2) are free from tension. Carefully remove the valve keys then.

  9. Release the tension from the EN-50717-2  compressor.

    Remove the valve spring retainer (2) and the exhaust valve spring (1) or intake valve spring (3).

    CAUTION:

    Do not damage the valve guide. Remove any burrs that have formed at the key groove by chamfering the valve stem with an oil stone or a file.

    Remove and DISCARD the valve stem oil seal (2). Use the EN-46116  remover (1).
