Action Taken When the DTC Sets

P0851 is a Type C DTC.
ECM uses the indicated range from the TCM for engine start-up. The TCM determines the selected range indicated by the transmission internal mode switch position and broadcasts the position over GMLAN. The engine will only crank when Neutral or Park is indicated.
