Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. For cylinder head assemble. Cylinder Head Assemble 
  2. Fig 1: Cylinder Head Bolts

    NOTE:

    Do not use any sealing material.

  3. Install the cylinder head gasket (3) to the block.
  4. Install the cylinder head (2). Ensure the number 1 cylinder is at top dead center (TDC). The key on the crankshaft should be on top in the 12 o'clock position.

    CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

    NOTE:

    Always use NEW cylinder head bolts.

  6. Install the cylinder head bolts.
    1. First Pass:  tighten the bolts in sequence to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).
    2. Final Pass:  tighten the bolts an additional 190 degrees in sequence using the EN 45059  meter.

    NOTE:

    Support engine as necessary from underneath while repositioning the engine support fixture. Engine Support Fixture 

  8. Reposition the engine support fixture lift hook from the J-36857  Engine Lift Bracket (2) to the engine lift bracket (3).
  9. Remove the J-36857  Engine Lift Bracket (2) and fastener (1) from the engine block.
  10. Install Thermostat Bypass Pipe - Thermostat Bypass Pipe Replacement (LTG)

  12. Reconnect ground wire.
  13. Connect the hoses at the water outlet. Water Outlet Replacement (LTG)
  14. Install ground wire.
  15. Connect the exhaust camshaft position sensor. Camshaft Position Sensor Replacement - Exhaust
  16. Connect the intake camshaft position sensor. Camshaft Position Sensor Replacement - Intake
  17. Install the intake and exhaust camshaft, bearing cap and lash adjuster. Intake and Exhaust Camshaft, Bearing Cap, and Lash Adjuster Removal 
  18. Install the timing chain and tensioner. Camshaft Timing Chain and Tensioner Replacement

  20. Install the fuel pump. (2) Fuel Pump Replacement
  21. Install the engine front cover. Engine Front Cover Replacement 
  22. Install the exhaust manifold. Exhaust Manifold Replacement (LTG)

  24. Install the intake manifold. Intake Manifold Replacement 
  25. Install the camshaft cover. Camshaft Cover Replacement (1st Design Tamper-Proof PCV System) 
  26. Refill the engine with NEW oil. Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement 
  27. Refill the coolant system. Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716)Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static)
