Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
    NOTE:

    Before installing the timing chain upper cover, check the components of the timing chain system for damage and wear.

  1. Check the components of the timing chain system for damage and wear:
    • Timing chain guides with plastic attachment
    • Timing chain tensioner and timing chain tensioner shoe with plastic attachment
    • Timing chain and all timing chain sprockets
    • Oil pump sprocket
    • Oil pump drive chain tensioner
  2. Clean all sealing surfaces.

  4. Unscrew the timing chain upper cover sleeve (1) to the initial position in arrow direction.

    NOTE:

    The complete installation procedure of the timing chain upper cover should be done in 20 minutes.

  6. Apply silicone sealing compound (1) to the timing chain upper cover sealing surface. The thickness of the sealing bead should be 2.0 - 3.0 mm (0.079 - 0.118 in).

  8. Install Timing Chain Upper Cover (1)

    NOTE:

    Do not install the sleeve bolt (2).

  10. Install the 6 timing chain upper cover bolts (1).

    CAUTION:

    Refer to: Fastener Caution .

  12. Tighten the 6 timing chain upper cover bolts in sequence as shown to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

  14. Tighten the timing chain upper cover sleeve (1) to 3.5 N.m (31 lb in).
  15. Install the timing chain upper cover sleeve bolt (2) and tighten to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
  16. Install Camshaft Housing. Refer to Camshaft Housing Replacement .
  17. Install Power Brake Booster Inlet Hose Connector Fitting. Refer to Power Brake Booster Inlet Hose Connector Fitting Replacement .
