Installation Procedure

    NOTE:

    Before installing the timing chain lower cover, check the components of the timing chain system for damage and wear.

  1. Check the components of the timing chain system for damage and wear:
    • Timing chain guides with plastic attachment
    • Timing chain tensioner and timing chain tensioner shoe with plastic attachment
    • Timing chain and all timing chain sprockets
    • Oil pump sprocket
    • Oil pump drive chain tensioner
  2. Clean all sealing surfaces.

    NOTE:

    The complete installation procedure of the timing chain lower cover should be done in 20 minutes.

  4. Apply silicone sealing compound (1) to the timing chain lower cover sealing surface. The thickness of the sealing bead should be 2.0 - 3.0 mm (0.079 - 0.118 in)

  6. Install NEW gaskets. (3) (Qty: 2)
  7. Install Timing Chain Lower Cover (2)
  8. Install the 11 timing chain lower cover bolts (1).

  10. Tighten the bolts in the sequence shown. (Qty: 11) to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

  12. Install Crankshaft Position Sensor (2)
  13. Install the crankshaft position sensor retainer spring (3).
  14. Install and tighten Crankshaft Position Sensor Bolt (1) to 10 N.m (89 lb in)
  15. Install Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal. Refer to Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Replacement 
  16. Install Crankshaft Position Sensor Reluctor Ring. Refer to Crankshaft Position Sensor Reluctor Ring Replacement

  18. Remove Engine Lift Bracket Bolt (2)
  19. Remove Engine Lift Bracket-Right Side (1)

  21. Remove Engine Lift Bracket Bolt (2)
  22. Remove Engine Lift Bracket-Left Side (1)
  23. Install Oil Pan. Refer to Oil Pan Replacement 
  24. Install Timing Chain Upper Cover. Refer to Timing Chain Upper Cover Replacement
