Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
    NOTE:

    Before installing the intake camshaft, check the components of the timing chain system for damage and wear.

  1. Check the components of the timing chain system for damage and wear:
    • Timing chain guides with plastic attachment
    • Timing chain tensioner and timing chain tensioner shoe with plastic attachment
    • Timing chain and all timing chain sprockets
    • Oil pump sprocket
    • Oil pump drive chain tensioner

  2. Coat all bearing surfaces with engine oil.
    3. NOTE:

    Ensure the marks (2) of the camshaft sprocket are aligned.

  3. Install the intake camshaft (1).

  4. Check the marks (1) of the camshaft sprockets to ensure they are aligned.

    NOTE:

    Note the direction of the arrows (3) on the camshaft bearing caps pointing to outside of the cylinder head.

  5. Install the 4 intake camshaft bearing caps (2) in the order as they were removed.
  6. Install the 8 intake camshaft bearing cap bolts (1).

    CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  7. Tighten the 8 intake camshaft bearing cap bolts in sequence as shown to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

  8. Remove the EN-50509  fixing tool (1) or the transport lock from the exhaust camshaft sprocket (2).

  9. Coat all bearing surfaces with engine oil.
  10. Install the camshaft bearing rear cap (2).
  11. Install the 4 camshaft bearing rear cap bolts (1).

  12. Tighten the 4 camshaft rear cap bolts in sequence as shown to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

  13. To check for proper alignment, install the EN-51143  fixing tool (1), by carefully turning the hexagon of the camshaft.

  14. Slide the camshaft sprocket (1) over the pin (2) of the EN-51188  fixing tool in arrow direction.

  15. Check that the camshaft sprocket (1) on the camshaft is properly applied.
  16. Install the camshaft sprocket bolts (2), counterhold with a wrench at the camshaft hexagon, and tighten to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

  17. Remove the 2 bolts (3).
  18. Remove EN-51188  fixing tool (2).

    NOTE:

    Cover the timing case with a lint-free cloth.

  19. Install the camshaft sprocket bolt (2) to the camshaft sprocket (1), counterhold with a wrench at the camshaft hexagon, and tighten to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

  20. Remove the EN-51143  fixing tool (1).
  21. Raise the vehicle.

  22. Remove the 2 bolts (3).
  23. Remove the EN-51140  fixing tool (2).

  24. Install the 4 crankshaft pulley bolts (1).

    Rotate the crankshaft 360 degrees in direction of arrow. Use a suitable flat bladed tool at the 4 crankshaft pulley bolts (1).

  25. Lower the vehicle.

    NOTE:

    Cover the timing case with a lint-free cloth.

  26. Install the camshaft sprocket bolt (2), counterhold with a wrench at the camshaft hexagon, and tighten to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
  27. Raise the vehicle.

  28. Rotate the crankshaft 360 degrees in direction of arrow. Use a suitable flat bladed tool.
  29. Remove the 4 crankshaft pulley bolts (1).

  30. Install the EN-51140  fixing tool (2).
  31. Install the fixing pin into the engine block bore (1) and tighten the 2 bolts (3).
  32. Lower the vehicle.

    NOTE:

    If the EN-51143  fixing tool does not fit, adjust timing.

  33. Install the EN-51143  fixing tool (1), by carefully turning the hexagon of the camshaft.
  34. Remove the EN-51143  fixing tool.
  35. Raise the vehicle.

  36. Remove the 2 bolts (3).
  37. Remove the EN-51140  fixing tool (2).
  38. Install Crankshaft Pulley. Refer to Crankshaft Pulley Replacement 
  39. Install Camshaft Housing. Refer to Camshaft Housing Replacement 
  40. Install Throttle Body Assembly. Refer to Throttle Body Assembly Replacement
  41. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (KL9)
