Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (KL9)
  2. Remove Throttle Body Assembly. Refer to Throttle Body Assembly Replacement
  3. Remove Camshaft Housing. Refer to Camshaft Housing Replacement 
  4. Remove Crankshaft Pulley. Refer to Crankshaft Pulley Replacement 
  5. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle

  6. Check if the bores (1) are aligned.
  7. Raise the vehicle.

  8. Install the 4 crankshaft pulley bolts (1).
  9. Rotate the crankshaft in the direction of the arrow until the exhaust cam bores are aligned. Use a suitable flat bladed tool.
  10. Raise the vehicle.

  11. Remove the 4 crankshaft pulley bolts (1).

  12. Install the EN-51140  fixing tool (2).
  13. Install the fixing pin into the engine block bore (1) and tighten the 2 bolts (3).
  14. Lower the vehicle.
  15. Install the 2 bolts (3).

  16. Remove the 4 camshaft bearing rear cap bolts (1).
  17. Remove the camshaft bearing rear cap (2).

  18. Install the EN-50509  fixing tool (1) to the exhaust camshaft sprocket (2).

  19. Mark the backside of both cam gears with paint marks (1).

  20. Loosen the 8 exhaust camshaft bearing cap bolts in sequence shown.

    NOTE:

    Note the direction of the arrows (3) on the camshaft bearing caps pointing to outside of the cylinder head.

  21. Remove the 8 exhaust camshaft bearing cap bolts (1).
  22. Remove the 4 exhaust camshaft bearing caps (2) and lay aside in the order they were removed.

    NOTE:

    If the exhaust camshaft is to be reinstalled, do not remove the EN-50509  fixing tool.

  23. Remove the exhaust camshaft (1).
  24. Cover the timing case with a lint free cloth.
