Installation Procedure
WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
- Check the components of the timing chain system for damage and wear:
- Timing chain guides with plastic attachment
- Timing chain tensioner and timing chain tensioner shoe with plastic attachment
- Timing chain and all timing chain sprockets
- Oil pump sprocket
- Oil pump drive chain tensioner
- For installation of a NEW exhaust camshaft do not remove the transport lock (1) before the exhaust camshaft and intake camshaft are installed.
- Transfer the rear marks (1) onto the back of the new camshaft sprocket.
- Coat all bearing surfaces with engine oil.
- Install the exhaust camshaft (1), ensure the bore (2) of the camshaft sprocket shows upwards and the marks are aligned.
- Check the marks (1) of the camshaft sprockets whether they are aligned.
- Install the 4 exhaust camshaft bearing caps (2) in the order they were removed.
- Install the 8 exhaust camshaft bearing cap bolts (1).
- Tighten the 8 exhaust camshaft bearing cap bolts in sequence shown to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
- Remove the EN-50509 fixing tool (1) or the transport lock from the exhaust camshaft sprocket (2).
- Coat all bearing surfaces with engine oil.
- Install the camshaft bearing rear cap (2).
- Install the 4 camshaft bearing rear cap bolts (1).
- Tighten the 4 camshaft rear cap bolts in sequence shown to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
- To check for proper alignment, install the EN-51143 fixing tool (1), by carefully turning the hexagon of the camshaft.
- Remove EN-51188 fixing tool (2).
- Remove the EN-51143 fixing tool (1).
- Raise the vehicle.
- Remove the 4 crankshaft pulley bolts (1).
- Install the fixing pin into the engine block bore (1) and tighten the 2 bolts (3).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the 2 bolts (3).
- Remove the EN-51140 fixing tool (2).
- Install Crankshaft Pulley. Refer to Crankshaft Pulley Replacement
- Install Camshaft Housing. Refer to Camshaft Housing Replacement
- Install Throttle Body Assembly. Refer to Throttle Body Assembly Replacement
- Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (KL9)
NOTE:
Before installing the exhaust camshaft, check the components of the timing chain system for damage and wear.
NOTE:
Note the direction of the arrows (3) on the camshaft bearing caps pointing to outside of the cylinder head.
