Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection (KL9)
  2. Remove Throttle Body Assembly. Refer to Throttle Body Assembly Replacement
  3. Remove Camshaft Housing. Refer to Camshaft Housing Replacement 
  4. Remove Crankshaft Pulley. Refer to Crankshaft Pulley Replacement 
  5. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle

    NOTE:

    To locate the correct camshaft sprocket bolt (2) check the TDC position.

  6. Check if the bores (1) are aligned.
  7. Raise the vehicle.

  8. Install the 4 crankshaft pulley bolts (1).
  9. Rotate the crankshaft 360 degrees in direction of arrow. Use a pry bar.
  10. Lower the vehicle.

    NOTE:

    Cover the timing case with a lint-free cloth.

  11. Remove the camshaft sprocket bolt (2) from the intake camshaft sprocket (1). Counterhold with a wrench at the camshaft hexagon.
  12. Raise the vehicle.

  13. Rotate the crankshaft 360 degrees in direction of arrow. Use a pry bar at the 4 crankshaft pulley bolts (1).
  14. Remove the 4 crankshaft pulley bolts (1).

  15. Install the EN-51140  fixing tool (2).
  16. Install the fixing pin into the engine block bore (1) and tighten the 2 bolts (3).
  17. Lower the vehicle.

    NOTE:

    Cover the timing case with a lint-free cloth.

  18. Remove the camshaft sprocket bolt (2) from the camshaft sprocket (1). Counterhold with a wrench at the camshaft hexagon.

  19. Install the EN-51188  fixing tool (2) to fix the camshaft sprocket (1).
  20. Install the 2 bolts (3).

    NOTE:

    Cover the timing case with a lint-free cloth.

  21. Remove the camshaft sprocket bolt (2) from the camshaft sprocket (1). Counterhold with a wrench at the camshaft hexagon.

    NOTE:

    Do not move the camshaft sprocket onto the EN-51188  fixing tool if the intake camshaft was removed.

  22. Slide the camshaft sprocket (1) over the pin (2) of the EN-51188  fixing tool in arrow direction.

  23. Remove the 4 camshaft bearing rear cap bolts (1).
  24. Remove the camshaft bearing rear cap (2).

    NOTE:

    Mark the camshaft sprockets if the camshafts will be reinstalled.

  25. Mark the exhaust camshaft sprocket and intake camshaft sprocket with paint marks (1).

  26. Install the EN-50509  fixing tool (1) to the exhaust camshaft sprocket (2).

  27. Loosen the 8 intake camshaft bearing cap bolts in sequence as shown.

  28. Remove the 8 intake camshaft bearing cap bolts (1).
  29. Remove the 4 intake camshaft bearing caps (2) and lay aside in the order they were removed.

  30. Remove the intake camshaft (1).

  31. Loosen the 8 exhaust camshaft bearing cap bolts in sequence as shown.

  32. Remove the 8 exhaust camshaft bearing cap bolts (1).
  33. Remove the 4 exhaust camshaft bearing caps (2) and lay aside in the order they were removed.

    NOTE:

    If the exhaust camshaft will be reinstalled, do not remove the EN-50509  fixing tool.

  34. Remove the exhaust camshaft (1).
