Timing Chain Lower Cover Installation

• DT-523-1  Handle
• EN-51145  Crankshaft Rear Oil Seal Installer

For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools .

NOTE:

Before installing the timing chain lower cover, check the components of the timing chain system for damage and wear.

1. Check the components of the timing chain system for damage and wear:
   • Timing chain guides with plastic attachment
   • Timing chain tensioner and timing chain tensioner shoe with plastic attachment
   • Timing chain and all timing chain sprockets
   • Oil pump sprocket
   • Oil pump drive chain tensioner
2. Clean the sealant surfaces.

NOTE:

The complete installation procedure of the timing chain lower cover should be done in 20 minutes.

3. Apply silicone sealing compound (1) to the timing chain lower cover sealing surface. The thickness of the sealing bead should be 2.0 - 3.0 mm (0.079 - 0.118 in).

4. Install the 2 NEW timing chain lower cover gaskets (3).
5. Install the timing chain lower cover (2)
6. Install the 11 timing chain lower cover bolts (1).

CAUTION:

Refer to Fastener Caution .

7. Tighten the 11 timing chain lower cover bolts in sequence as shown to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).

8. Install the EN-51145-1  installer (1) to the crankshaft.
9. Install a NEW crankshaft rear oil seal (2) to the EN-51145-1  installer (1).

10. Pull in the crankshaft rear oil seal (1) with the EN-51145-2  installer (2) and the DT-523-1  handle (3).
11. Remove the EN-51145  installer.

12. Check the proper seat (1) of the crankshaft rear oil seal.
