Lubrication Description
Oil is applied under pressure to the crankshaft bearings (10), connecting rod bearings, balancer bearings (11) (if equipped), piston cooling nozzles (7), camshaft bearings (3), camshaft rear bearings (1) and hydraulic lash adjusters (4). In addition the variable oil pump (9) and hydraulic chain tensioner (12) are supplied with pressurized oil. Oil is sucked from the oil pan through the fixed screen into the variable vane type oil pump. The pump is driven by the oil pump chain and the crankshaft. The piston oil nozzle oil control solenoid valve (5) is fixed at the engine block. The piston oil nozzle oil control solenoid valve close or open the oil passes into the engine oil gallery to the piston oil nozzles (7). The oil cooler (6) is before the oil filter (8), to improve the cleanliness. The pressurized oil from the pump passes through the oil filter. The oil filter is located in the oil pan.
The turbocharger is supplied with oil over the turbocharger oil feed pipe (2), which is installed at the engine block. The turbocharger oil feed pipe including a dedicated filter to reduce the risk of turbo damage. The oil is cleaned by passing the filter from the outer to the inner side of the filter. Then the oil flows into the main oil gallery. The connecting rod bearings are supplied by oil flow passages through the crankshaft connecting the main journals to the rod journals. A groove around each upper main bearing furnishes oil to the drilled crankshaft passages. In the cylinder head the oil is distributed to the chain tensioner, oil pump flow control valve (5) and into the camshaft feed oil gallery. From there the hydraulic valve lifters and camshaft bearings are supplied with oil.
