Circuit/System Testing

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
NOTE:

You must perform the Circuit/System Verification before proceeding with Circuit/System Testing.

  1. Ignition OFF, and all vehicle systems OFF. Disconnect the harness connector at the E11A Fuel Heater/Water in Fuel Sensor. It may take up to 2 minutes for all vehicle systems to power down.
  2. Test for less than 10 Ω between the Ground circuit terminal 4 and ground.
    • If 10 Ω or greater
    1. Ignition OFF, disconnect Ground G307.

      Refer to Ground Views .

    2. Test for less than 2 Ω in the ground circuit end to end.
      • If 2 Ω or greater, repair the open or high resistance in the circuit.
      • If less than 2 Ω, repair the open/high resistance in the ground connection.
    • Go to next step: If less than 10 Ω
  3. Reconnect the harness connector at the E11A Fuel Heater/Water in Fuel Sensor.
  4. Ignition ON.
  5. Using the scan tool, observe the Water in Fuel parameter. The parameter should display NO.
    • If No is not displayed
    1. Ignition OFF.
    2. Test for infinite resistance between the Signal circuit terminal 3 and ground.
      • If less than infinite resistance, repair the short to ground on the circuit.
      • If infinite resistance, replace the K20 Engine Control Module.
    • Go to next step: If No is displayed
  6. Install a 3 A fused jumper wire between the Signal circuit terminal 3 and the Ground circuit terminal 4. The Water In Fuel Sensor parameter should display YES.
    • If the 3 A fuse opens and the Water In Fuel Sensor parameter does not display Yes

Test the signal circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal replace the K20 Engine Control Module.

    • If the 3 A fuse does not open and the Water In Fuel Sensor parameter does not display Yes

Test the signal circuit for an open. If the circuit tests normal replace the K20 Engine Control Module.

    • Go to next step: If the 3 A fuse does not open and the Water In Fuel Sensor parameter displays Yes
  7. Replace the E11A Fuel Heater/Water in Fuel Sensor.
