Circuit/System Testing

- Verify the following conditions do not exist:
- Hoses and lines that have kinks that would restrict the flow of fuel
- Fuel leaks between the fuel tank and the fuel injection pump
- If any conditions exist
Repair or replace as necessary.
- Go to next step: If no conditions exist
- Verify that adequate fuel is in the fuel tank.
- Verify there are no leaks in the fuel return lines.
- If a leak is found
Refer to: Fuel Return System Diagnosis
- Go to next step: If a leak is not found
- If a leak is found
- Ignition Off and all vehicle systems Off. It may take up to 2 minutes for all vehicle systems to power down.
- Ignition On, verify scan tool parameter Fuel Pressure Sensor is between 370-450 kPa (54-65 PSI).
- If not within 370-450 kPa (54-65 PSI)
- Ignition Off and all vehicle systems Off. It may take up to 2 minutes for all vehicle systems to power down.
- Disconnect the fuel supply inlet line at the fuel filter assembly.
- Install the CH-37287-1A Fuel Pressure Gauge Adapter and attach the CH-48027 Digital Fuel Pressure Gauge.
- Ignition On, verify the fuel pressure is between 370-450 kPa (54-65 PSI).
- If not within 370-450 kPa (54-65 PSI), replace the G12A Fuel Pump - Primary.
- If within 370-450 kPa (54-65 PSI), replace the fuel filter.
- Go to next step: If within 370-450 kPa (54-65 PSI)
- Verify engine cranks and runs smoothly.
- If engine cranks but does not run or starts but runs poorly

- Go to next step: If engine cranks and runs smoothly
- If engine cranks but does not run or starts but runs poorly
- All OK
NOTE:
It may be necessary to remove engine components for the visual inspections.
NOTE:
A fuel return line that is leaking, is a good indication there is a restriction in the return system.
NOTE:
Fuel temperature must be warmer than 20°C (68°F) before performing the next step or incorrect diagnosis may occur.
