Water-In-Fuel Draining

- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
- Attach a small piece of hose to the fuel filter drain plug.
- Place an approved fuel-resistant container under the fuel filter.
- Open the fuel filter drain plug (1) until the water contaminated fuel seeps from the fuel filter drain plug.
- With the engine off, press and hold ENGINE START/STOP button without applying the brake for five seconds to place the vehicle in Service Mode. Wait approximately five seconds, and then press ENGINE START/STOP again to turn it off. This operation will enhance water flow out of the filter. Repeat step until only diesel fuel is visible.
- Tighten the fuel filter drain plug to 1.6 N.m (14 lb in).
- Remove the container and hose.
- Start the engine and let it run for a few minutes. During the draining process, air may have entered the fuel system. If the engine stalls, the fuel system may need to be primed. Refer to Fuel System Priming
- Inspect for fuel leaks.
