Circuit/System Testing
WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2019 Buick Cascada, 2018 Buick Cascada, and 2017 Buick Cascada. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Ignition/Vehicle & All vehicle systems - Off
- Remove the component:Control Valve Body Cover
- Connect the electrical connector: X1@Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly
- Disconnect the electrical connector: B15 Transmission Internal Mode Switch
- Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
- Verify the scan tool parameter:Internal Mode Switch A/B/C/P@Transmission Control Module = High High High High High
- If not the specified state
Replace the component: Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly
- Go to next step: If the specified state
- If not the specified state
- Verify the scan tool parameter: Park/Neutral Position Switch@Engine Control Module = In Gear
- If not the specified state
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector: Engine Control Module
- Test for infinite resistance between the test points: Signal terminal A@Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly & Ground
- If less than infinite resistance - Repair the short to ground on the circuit.
- If infinite resistance - Replace the component: K20 Engine Control Module
- Go to next step: If the specified state
- Connect a 3 A fused jumper wire between each of the following circuit pairs, one at a time:
- Signal terminal B & Low Reference terminal F@Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly
- Signal terminal C & Low Reference terminal F@Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly
- Signal terminal D & Low Reference terminal F@Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly
- Signal terminal E & Low Reference terminal F@Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly
Verify the scan tool parameter: Internal Mode Switch A/B/C/P = 3 High and 1 Low
- If not the specified state
Replace the component: Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly
- Go to next step: If the specified state
- Connect a 3 A fused jumper wire between the test points: Signal terminal A & Low Reference terminal F@Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly
Verify the scan tool parameter: Park/Neutral Position Switch = Park/Neutral
- If not the specified state
- Remove - Jumper Wire
- Test for less than 1 V between the test points: Signal terminal A@Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly & Ground
- If 1 V or greater - Repair the short to voltage on the circuit.
- Go to next step: If less than 1 V
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Disconnect the appropriate electrical connector: Engine Control Module
- Test for less than 10 ohms between the test points: Signal terminal A@Q8 Control Solenoid Valve Assembly & The other end of the circuit
- If 10 ohms or greater - Repair the open/high resistance in the circuit.
- If less than 10 ohms - Replace the component: K20 Engine Control Module
- Go to next step: If the specified state
- Test or replace the component: B15 Transmission Internal Mode Switch
NOTE:
It may take up to 2 min for all vehicle systems to power down before an accurate ground or low reference circuit continuity test can be performed.
