Installation Procedure

  1. GM2028142

    Ensure the brake pad hardware mating surfaces are clean.

  2. Install the brake pad retainers springs (1) to the brake caliper bracket (2) and apply a thin coat of high temperature silicone lube to the brake pad mating surfaces.

    WARNING:
    1. When retracting the brake caliper piston, ensure to avoid the brake caliper piston boot rotating along with the brake caliper piston.

      The rotation damages the boot and dirt enters inside to the brake caliper piston. Blocking of the concerned disc brake and personal injury can occur.

      Avoid the brake caliper piston boot rotation with one or more of the following methods:

      • Rotate the piston slightly in the opposite direction until the boot stops to rotate and resets in normal state.
      • Clean the piston boot and piston boot to piston interface of dirt.
      • Lift slightly the piston boot lip from the piston groove to relieve residual forces.
      • Apply carefully, and under clean conditions, a thin film of Kluber GLK1 on the piston groove.
    2. When fully retracting the brake caliper piston, ensure the brake caliper piston slots are aligned vertically and the brake pad nose fits into the piston slot.

      A wrong installation can damage the brake pad and the brake caliper piston. A damage of the brake parts can occur a brake force reduction and personal injury.

    Fully retract the rear brake caliper piston (1) into the caliper bore using the CH-6007-B  installation tool along with CH-6007-50  adapter (2).

    NOTE:

    The wear sensor equipped disc brake pad must be mounted inboard of the rotor with the leading edge of the sensor facing the brake rotor during forward wheel rotation, or at the top of the pad when installed in vehicle position.

    NOTE:

    If the brake pad is equipped with an adhesive back surface, remove the protection foil prior to installation.

    Install the brake pads (1) to the caliper bracket (2).

    NOTE:

    Cavities for brake pad anti rotation pin (2) must be aligned as shown in graphic in order to ensure an appropriate mounting onto the inner brake pad.

    Check the correct position of disc brake caliper piston (1).

    Remove the support, and rotate the brake caliper (1) into position over the disc brake pads and to the caliper mounting bracket.

    7. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  7. Install the stud and dampener assembly (2) and tighten the stud to 28 N.m (21 lb ft). Counter the hex flange on the rear brake caliper bracket using a suitable wrench.

    Check for correct position of the brake caliper piston slot to the brake pad slots.

  9. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  10. Lower the vehicle.
  11. With the engine OFF, gradually apply the brake pedal approximately 2/3 of its travel distance.
  12. Slowly release the brake pedal.
  13. Wait 15 seconds, then gradually apply the brake pedal approximately 2/3 of its travel distance again until a firm brake pedal apply is obtained. This will properly seat the brake caliper pistons and brake pads.
  14. Fill the master cylinder auxiliary reservoir to the proper level. Refer to Brake Master Cylinder Reservoir Filling .
  15. Tension the parking brake cable. For electric parking brake, refer to Parking Brake Cable Adjuster Enabling , for mechanical parking brake, refer to Parking Brake Adjustment .
