Installation Procedure

  1. GM2966364

    Oil Pump Seal(2) - Install a NEW seal.

  2. Oil Pump(1) - Install
    3. CAUTION:

    Fastener Caution

  3. Oil Pump Bolt(3) - Install and tighten[6x] 10 N.m (89 lb in)
  4. GM2968113

    Install the timing chain guide - left side (1).

  5. Install the timing chain guide - left side pin (2) and tighten to 19 N.m (14 lb ft).

    Install the timing chain guide - right side (1).

  7. Timing Chain Guide Bolt(2) - Install and tighten [2x] 7 N.m (62 lb in)
  8. Oil Pan Replacement  - Install
  9. Ensure engine is adjusted to TDC of cylinder 1 and camshafts are fixed with EN-51148  holding tool.

    Crankshaft Sprocket(2) - Install

    11. NOTE:

    Mind the chain marks.

  11. Timing Chain(1) - Install

    Ensure that the colored link (3) match to the arrow on the oil pump.

  13. Ensure that the colored links (1, 2) match to the marks on the camshaft position adjuster actuators.

    Timing Chain Tensioner(1) - Install

  15. Timing Chain Tensioner Bolt(2) - Install and tighten 10N.m (89 lb in)[2x]

    Push the timing chain guide - left side (2) in the direction of the arrow.

  17. Remove the EN-50513  tensioner pin (3) from the tensioner (1).

    Remove the middle bolt (3) and the 2 outer bolts (2, 4) and remove the EN-51148  holding tool (1).

    Timing Chain Upper Guide(1) - Install

  20. Bolt(2) - Install and tighten 7N.m (62 lb in)[2x]
  21. Check the position of the crankshaft, camshaft and camshaft position actuator adjuster.
    1. Install the lower engine front cover with 4 bolts and the crankshaft balancer absorber.
    2. Turn crankshaft 720 degrees in the direction of engine rotation by the crankshaft balancer absorber bolt.

      Adjust the engine to cylinder 1 (TDC) of combustion stroke. Set crankshaft in direction of engine rotation until the markings (2, 3) line up. Rotate at the crankshaft balancer absorber bolt (1).

    4. GM2968105

      Install the EN-51148  holding tool (1) to camshafts and to the cylinder head.

      1. Tighten the bolt (3) in the middle.
      2. Tighten the 2 outer bolts (2, 4).
    5. If EN-51148  holding tool can be installed, the engine timing is properly adjusted.
    6. Remove the middle bolt (3) and the 2 outer bolts (2, 4) and remove the EN-51148  holding tool (1).
  22. Remove the crankshaft balancer absorber and the lower engine front cover.
  23. Engine Front Cover Replacement - Lower  - Install
