Removal Procedure
- Camshaft Cover Replacement - Remove
- Intake Manifold Replacement - Remove
- Turbocharger Replacement - Remove
Electrical Connector(2)@Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve Solenoid(1) - Disconnect
- Electrical Connector(4)@Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve Solenoid(3) - Disconnect
- Fuel Feed Front Pipe(6)@Fuel Injection Pump(9) - Disconnect
- Electrical Connector(7)@Intake Camshaft Position Sensor(5) - Disconnect
- Electrical Connector(8)@Fuel Injection Pump - Disconnect
- Electrical Connector(10)@Exhaust Camshaft Position Sensor(13) - Disconnect
- Power Brake Booster Vacuum Pipe (11)@Power Brake Booster Pump - Disconnect - Plastic Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service
- Water Outlet Replacement - Remove
- Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
- Drive Belt Replacement - Remove
Drive Belt Idler Pulley Bolt(2) - Remove
- Drive Belt Idler Pulley(1) - Remove
Engine Wiring Harness Bracket Bolt(1) - Remove
- Put the engine wiring harness bracket (2) along with the wiring harness aside.
Engine Wiring Harness Bracket Nut(2) - Remove
- Put the engine wiring harness bracket (1) along with the wiring harness aside.
- Support the engine under the oil pan.
Remove and DISCARD the 3 engine mount to engine mount bracket bolts (3) and the 3 washers (4).
- Remove the 2 engine mount to body bolts (2) and the engine mount nut (1).
- Engine Mount(5) - Remove
- Engine Mount Bracket Replacement - Remove
Remove the 7 upper engine front cover bolts (1).
Remove the 4 upper engine front cover bolts (1, 2).
Install 2 upper engine front cover bolts (2, 3) to the intended bores, to loosen the upper engine front cover (1).
- Remove the 2 upper engine front cover bolts (2, 3).
Remove the upper engine front cover (1).
Upper Timing Chain Guide Bolt(2) - Remove[2x]
- Timing Chain Upper Guide(1) - Remove
Adjust the engine to cylinder 1 top dead center (TDC) of combustion stroke. Set crankshaft in direction of engine rotation until the markings (2, 3) line up. Rotate at the crankshaft balancer absorber bolt (1).
- NOTE:
If EN-51148 holding tool does not fit properly, rotate the crankshaft and additional 360 degrees.
Install the EN-51148 holding tool (1) to camshafts and to the cylinder head.
- Tighten the bolt (3) in the middle.
- Tighten the 2 outer bolts (2, 4).
Mark the camshaft timing chain in line to the camshaft position actuator adjuster marks (1, 2).
Push the timing chain guide - left side (2) in the direction of the arrow.
- Fix the tensioner (1) with the EN-50513 tensioner pin (3).
Timing Chain Tensioner Bolt(2) - Remove[2x]
- Timing Chain Tensioner(1) - Remove
Remove the camshaft timing chain (2) from the camshaft position actuator adjusters.
- Lay the camshaft timing chain (2) between the timing chain guides (1, 3).
- NOTE:
For replacing the cylinder head gasket, it is not necessary to remove the camshaft position actuator adjuster.
Remove the intake camshaft position actuator adjuster bolt (3).
- Remove the intake camshaft position actuator adjuster (1).
Remove the exhaust camshaft position actuator adjuster bolt (3).
- Remove the exhaust camshaft position actuator adjuster (2).
Loosen the EN-51148 holding tool bolts (2, 3, 4).
- Remove the EN-51148 holding tool (1).

Loosen the 10 cylinder head bolts (1) in sequence as shown.
Cylinder Head Bolt(1) - Remove and DISCARD[10x]
- Cylinder Head(2) - Remove
- Cylinder Head Gasket(3) Remove and DISCARD
- In case of re-use, then clean and inspect the cylinder head. Refer to Cylinder Head Cleaning and Inspection .
