Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2019 Buick Cascada, 2018 Buick Cascada, and 2017 Buick Cascada. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Ensure engine is adjusted to TDC of cylinder 1 and camshafts are fixed with EN-51148  holding tool.

    NOTE:

    Mind the chain marks.

    Install the timing chain (1) along with the crankshaft sprocket (2).

    Ensure that the colored link (3) match to the arrow on the oil pump.

  4. Ensure that the colored links (1, 2) match to the marks on the camshaft position adjuster actuators.

    Install the timing chain tensioner (1).

  6. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  7. Install the 2 timing chain tensioner bolts (2) and tighten to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

    Push the timing chain guide - left side (2) in the direction of the arrow.

  9. Remove the 2 mm drill bit or equivalent (3) from the tensioner (1).

    Remove the middle bolt (3) and the 2 outer bolts (2, 4) and remove the EN-51148  holding tool (1).

    Install the upper timing chain guide (1).

  12. Install the upper timing chain guide bolts (2) and tighten to 7 N.m (62 lb in).
  13. Check the position of the crankshaft, camshaft and camshaft position actuator adjuster.
    1. Install the lower engine front cover with 4 bolts and the crankshaft balancer absorber.
    2. Turn crankshaft 720 degrees in the direction of engine rotation by the crankshaft balancer absorber bolt.

      Adjust the engine to cylinder 1 (TDC) of combustion stroke. Set crankshaft in direction of engine rotation until the markings (2, 3) line up. Rotate at the crankshaft balancer absorber bolt (1).

      Install the EN-51148  holding tool (1) to camshafts and to the cylinder head.

      1. Tighten the bolt (3) in the middle.
      2. Tighten the 2 outer bolts (2, 4).
    5. If EN-51148  holding tool can be installed, the engine timing is properly adjusted.
    6. Remove the middle bolt (3) and the 2 outer bolts (2, 4) and remove the EN-51148  holding tool (1).
  14. Remove the crankshaft balancer absorber and the lower engine front cover.
  15. Install the lower engine front cover. Engine Front Cover Replacement - Lower
