Removal Procedure

  1. Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement - Remove
  2. Camshaft Cover Replacement  - Remove
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle

    Adjust the engine to cylinder 1 top dead center (TDC) of combustion stroke. Set crankshaft in direction of engine rotation until the markings (2, 3) line up. Rotate at the crankshaft balancer absorber bolt (1).

  5. Lower the vehicle.

    Install an engine lifter (1) to the right engine lift bracket and apply tension to the engine lifter chain in order to support the engine.

    Remove and DISCARD the 3 engine mount to engine mount bracket bolts (3) and the 3 washers (4).

  8. Remove the 2 engine mount to body bolts (2) and the engine mount nut (1).
  9. Engine Mount(5) - Remove
  10. Engine Front Cover Replacement - Upper  - Remove

    NOTE:

    If EN-51148  holding tool does not fit properly, rotate the crankshaft an additional 360 degrees.

    Install the EN-51148  holding tool (1) to camshafts and to the cylinder head.

    1. Tighten the bolt (3) in the middle.
    2. Tighten the 2 outer bolts (2, 4).

    Upper Timing Chain Guide Bolt(2) - Remove[2x]

  13. Timing Chain Upper Guide(1) - Remove

    Mark the camshaft timing chain with a suitable permanent marker or paint stick in line to the camshaft position actuator adjuster marks (1, 2).

    Push the timing chain guide - left side (2) in arrow direction.

  16. Fix the tensioner (1) with EN-50513  tensioner pin (3).

    Timing Chain Tensioner Bolt(2) - Remove[2x]

  18. Timing Chain Tensioner(1) - Remove

    Remove the camshaft timing chain (2) from the camshaft position actuator adjuster.

  20. Lay the camshaft timing chain (2) between the timing chain guides (1, 3).

    Remove the camshaft position actuator adjuster bolt (3).

  22. Remove the intake camshaft position actuator adjuster (1).
  23. GM2968114

    Remove the camshaft position actuator adjuster bolt (3).

  24. Remove the exhaust camshaft position actuator adjuster (2).
