Piston, Connecting Rod, and Bearing Removal

  1. GM3213172

    Remove the 2 oil pump suction pipe bolts (2).

  2. Remove the 2 oil pan baffle bolts (4).
  3. Remove the oil pan baffle including the oil pump suction pipe (3).
  4. Remove and DISCARD the oil pump suction pipe seal (1).

    NOTE:

    Note the cylinder sequence.

    Mark the connecting rod with the connecting rod bearing cover (1).

  6. GM3213171

    Set the crankshaft to TDC of combustion stroke of cylinder 1.

  7. Remove and DISCARD the 4 connecting rod bearing cap bolts (3) from the cylinder 2 and 3.
  8. NOTE:

    The shear surfaces of the connecting rod and the connecting rod bearing cap form a unique fit and must not be swapped or damaged. Do not lay down on the shear surfaces.

  9. Remove the 2 connecting rod bearing caps (2) from the cylinder 2 and 3.
  10. NOTE:

    Set aside in the order removed.

  11. Remove the 2 connecting rod lower bearings (1).
  12. GM3213175

    Push the 2 pistons with the connecting rod (2) from the cylinder 2 and 3 upwards.

  13. Remove the 2 connecting rod upper bearings (1) from the cylinder 2 and 3.
  14. Turn the crankshaft through 180 degrees and set the crankshaft to TDC of combustion stroke of cylinder 2.

    Remove and DISCARD the 4 connecting rod bearing cap bolts (3) from the cylinder 1 and 4.

  16. NOTE:

    The shear surfaces of the connecting rod and the connecting rod bearing cap form a unique fit and must not be swapped or damaged. Do not lay down on the shear surfaces.

  17. Remove the 2 connecting rod bearing caps (2) from the cylinder 1 and 4.
  18. NOTE:

    Set aside in the order removed.

  19. Remove the 2 connecting rod lower bearings (1).
  20. GM3213173

    Push the 2 pistons with connecting rod (2) from the cylinder 1 and 4 upwards.

  21. NOTE:

    Set aside in the order removed.

  22. Remove the 2 connecting rod upper bearings (1) from the cylinder 1 and 4.
