Oil Pan Cleaning and Inspection

  1. GM2949087

    Remove the 3 engine oil level indicator switch bolts (3).

  2. Remove the engine oil level sensor (4) and the engine oil level sensor seal (1).
  3. Clean and inspect the oil level sensor. Ensure that the float moves freely within the sensor and the oil holes are clear of debris and not obstructed.
  4. Remove the oil pan drain plug (2).
  5. Clean the oil pan.
  6. Inspect the oil pan drain plug thread of the oil pan.
  7. Inspect the oil pan for cracking near the pan rail and the transmission mounting points.
  8. Inspect the oil pan for cracking resulting from impact or flying road debris.
  9. Repair or replace the oil pan as necessary.

    Remove the 4 oil baffle bolts (1, 3).

  11. Remove the oil baffle (2).
  12. Clean the oil baffle.
    13. NOTE:

    The oil pump suction pipe screen is glued to the oil pan baffle and is not removable.

  13. Inspect the oil pan baffle and oil pump suction pipe screen.
  14. Install the oil baffle (2).
    15. CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

  15. Install at first the 2 oil baffle bolts (1) and tighten to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
  16. Install the 2 oil baffle bolts (3) and tighten to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
  17. GM2949087

    Install a NEW oil pan drain plug (2) to the oil pan and tighten to 14 N.m (124 lb in).

  18. Install a NEW oil level sensor gasket (1).
  19. Install the oil level sensor (4).
  20. Install the 3 oil level sensor bolts (3) and tighten to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
