Lower Crankcase Installation

EN-45059 Angle Meter
For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools .
- NOTE:
- The block assembly and the lower crankcase surface must be free of contamination prior to applying the sealer.
- The lower crankcase must be fastened to final torque specification within 20 minutes of applying the sealer.
Apply a 3 mm (0.12 in) bead of sealer (2) on the lower crankcase. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers .
- Apply an additionally 3 mm (0.12 in) bead of sealer about a length of 20 mm (0.90 in) in the outer regions (1, 3).
- Apply an additionally 3 mm bead of sealer about a length of 5 mm (0.20 in), in the outer region (4).
Install the lower crankcase (1).
- Install 10 NEW crankshaft bearing cap tie plate bolts (2).

CAUTION:Refer to Torque-to-Yield Fastener Caution .
Tighten the 10 NEW lower crankshaft bolts in the sequence as shown, use the EN-45059 Angle Meter.
- First pass tighten to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
- Second pass to 120 degrees.
- Third pass to 15 degrees.
Install the 2 long lower crankcase bolts (1) and tighten to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
- Install the 8 short lower crankcase bolts (2) and tighten to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
