Fuel Injector and Fuel Injector Bore Cleaning and Inspection

EN-47909 Injector Bore and Sleeve Cleaning Kit
For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools .
- For this operation the fuel injector rail, the fuel injector and the fuel injector seals are removed.
Use the EN-47909 cleaning kit (1) to clean the fuel injector bores.
- NOTE:
Do not soak or submerge the fuel rail or injectors in solvent.
Clean the exterior of the fuel rail (1) and injectors in solvent.
- Remove the clip (2) and disconnect the wiring harness plug (3).
- Remove the fuel injection fuel rail pressure fuel sensor (4).
- Inspect the fuel injection fuel rail pressure fuel sensor (4) for damage.
- If replacing, dry the fuel pressure sensor bore in the fuel rail with a lint free cloth.
- The bore should be free of fuel, debris, and burrs.
- Lubricate the fuel pressure sensor bore, in the fuel rail, with clean engine oil.
- Lubricate the threads and sealing area on the fuel pressure sensor with clean engine oil.
- Install the fuel pressure sensor hand tight.
- Remove the fuel pressure sensor and re-lubricate the bore, threads, and sealing area.
- Re-install the fuel pressure sensor. Tighten the fuel injection fuel rail pressure fuel sensor to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).
- Inspect the fuel rail and components for the following conditions:
- Damage, debris, or restrictions to the fuel rail
- Damage, debris, or restrictions to the fuel ports in the fuel rail
- Damage to the mounting area for the fuel rail
- Damage to the fuel rail mounting bolts
- Damage to the threads on the fuel rail fuel feed fitting
Inspect the fuel injectors for the following conditions:
- Damage to the fuel injector connector O-ring (1)
- Damage to the fuel injector plastic spacer (2)
- Damage to the fuel injector connector (3)
- Damage to the fuel injector harness connector
- Damage to the tolerance ring (4)
- Damage to the fuel injector shaft (5)
- Damage to the fuel injector tip (6)
- Damage to the fuel injector sealing surfaces (7)
- Replace the fuel rail or injector if any damage is found. Do not attempt to repair a fuel rail or injector.
- CAUTION:
Clean the fuel injectors with a copper brush and a lint free cloth in the direction of the injector opening. Do not contaminate the opening. Contamination of the injector opening can lead to a fuel injection system malfunction.
Clean the fuel injector shaft and fuel injector sealing surfaces (2) from gasoline exhaust particulates and sealing deposit with a brass brush (1) and a lint free cloth in the direction of the arrow.
- Repeat the fuel injector cleaning and inspection process for all 4 fuel injectors.
