Removal Procedure
With a pressurized cooling system, the coolant temperature in the radiator can be considerably higher than the boiling point of the solution at atmospheric pressure. Removal of the surge tank cap, while the cooling system is hot and under high pressure, causes the solution to boil instantaneously with explosive force. This will cause the solution to spew out over the engine, the fenders, and the person removing the cap. Serious bodily injury may result.
- Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
- Drain the engine coolant. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
- NOTE:
Use a small screwdriver to unclip the retainer clip (arrow) and pull up the electronic control module.
Remove the electronic control module (1) from the battery tray.
Unclip the 2 wiring harness retainer clips (4) from the 2 retainer brackets.
- Disconnect the exhaust camshaft sensor wiring harness plug (1).
- Disconnect the engine coolant temperature sensor wiring harness plug (2).
- Disconnect the intake camshaft sensor wiring harness plug (3).
Disconnect the coolant air bleed hose (1) from the water outlet housing (4).
- Remove the heater inlet hose from water outlet housing. Refer to Heater Inlet Hose Replacement .
Unlock the quick fitting (3).
- Remove the heater outlet hose (4) from the water outlet housing (1).
Open the retainer spring (2) from the radiator inlet hose connector.
- Remove the radiator inlet hose (1) from the water outlet (3).
Remove the 3 water outlet bolts (3).
- Remove the water outlet (1).
- Remove and DISCARD the water outlet seal (2).
