WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2019 Buick Cascada, 2018 Buick Cascada, and 2017 Buick Cascada. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
- Verify DTC P00B3, P00B4, P00B6, P0116, P0117, P0118, P0119, P0128 is not set.
- If any of the DTCs are set
- Go to next step: If none of the DTCs are set
- Verify DTC P00B7, P2181 is not set.
- If any of the DTCs are set
Refer to:Circuit/System Testing
- Go to next step: If none of the DTCs are set
- If any of the DTCs are set
- Perform the scan tool control function: Cooling Fan - From 0 to 90% and back to 0%.
Verify the component turns On and Off:G10 Cooling Fan Motor
- If the component does not turn On and Off
Refer to: Cooling Fan Inoperative
- Go to next step: If the component turns On and Off
- If the component does not turn On and Off
- Perform the scan tool control function: Engine Coolant Thermostat Heater - On and Off
Verify the scan tool parameter:
- Engine Coolant Thermostat Heater Control Circuit High Voltage Test Status = OK or Not Run
- Engine Coolant Thermostat Heater Control Circuit Low Voltage Test Status = OK or Not Run
- Engine Coolant Thermostat Heater Control Circuit Open Test Status = OK or Not Run
- If not the specified state
Refer to: Circuit/System Testing
- Go to next step: If the specified state
- Ignition/Vehicle - Off
- Ignition - On / Vehicle - In Service Mode
Verify the following parameters are within 5°C (9°F) of each other:
- Ambient Air Temperature
- ECT Sensor
- If not within 5°C (9°F) of each other
Repeat step 6 - Wait until the conditions are met
- Go to next step: If within 5°C (9°F) of each other
- Perform the following action:
- HVAC Controls - Off
- Hood - Closed
- Engine - Idling
Verify the scan tool parameter: ECT Sensor =
- {Ambient Air Temperature = 10°C (50°F)}Greater than 90°C (194°F) - Within 26 min
- {Ambient Air Temperature = 20°C (68°F)}Greater than 90°C (194°F) - Within 22 min
- {Ambient Air Temperature = 27°C (80°F)}Greater than 90°C (194°F) - Within 18 min
- If 90°C (194°F) or colder
Test or replace the component: E41 Engine Coolant Thermostat Heater
- Go to next step: If warmer than 90°C (194°F)
- Perform the scan tool control function: Engine Coolant Thermostat Heater and Cooling Fan
- Engine Coolant Thermostat Heater - 100%
- Cooling Fan - 90%
- Engine Speed - 1, 800 to 2, 200 RPM
- Verify the scan tool parameter: ECT Sensor = Less than 85°C (185°F) - Within 5 min
- If 85°C (185°F) or warmer
Refer to:Circuit/System Testing
- Go to next step: If colder than 85°C (185°F)
- Perform the scan tool control function: Engine Coolant Thermostat Heater and Cooling Fan
- Engine Coolant Thermostat Heater - 0%
- Cooling Fan - 0%
- Engine Speed - 1, 800 to 2, 200 RPM
- Verify the scan tool parameter: ECT Sensor = Greater than 102°C (215°F) - Within 5 min
- If 102°C (215°F) or colder
Test or replace the component: E41 Engine Coolant Thermostat Heater
- Go to next step: If warmer than 102°C (215°F)
- {If a DTC was not set - Refer to the next step}Operate the vehicle within the Conditions for Running the DTC. You may also operate the vehicle within the conditions that you observed from the Freeze Frame/Failure Records data.
- If the DTC sets
Refer to: Circuit/System Testing
- Go to next step: If the DTC is not set
- If the DTC sets
- All OK.
NOTE:
Depending on ambient temperature, it may take up to 8 h to reach the specified temperature.
