Auxiliary water pump (1) is an additional electric pump used to circulate coolant through the heater core from the engine during periods when the engine is off. This helps to maintain cabin comfort at low ambient temperatures below 4.4°C (40°F) while still allowing the engine to be turned off. This auxiliary pump improves fuel economy performance during cold weather driving on start/stop vehicles. Vehicles that have capability to turn off the engine without this pump may have limited off times due to degradation in cabin comfort.
