Installation Procedure

  1. GM174601

    Install the NEW retaining ring to the front wheel drive shaft. Start to pull the ring from the front wheel drive shaft to the ring groove.

  2. Grease the intermediate shaft splines. Refer to Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations .
  3. GM2743858

    Install the wheel drive shaft (3) to the vehicle.

  4. Install the wheel drive shaft onto the intermediate shaft until the retaining ring is fully seated.
  5. Confirm that the front wheel drive shaft retaining ring is properly seated by grasping the inner housing and pulling the inner housing outward.
  6. Install the wheel drive shaft into the front wheel bearing/hub.
  7. Install the lower control arm outer fastener to the strut assembly. Refer to Lower Control Arm Replacement .
  8. Install the outer tie rod assembly to the steering knuckle. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement .
  9. Install the front stabilizer shaft link to the front strut assembly. Refer to Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement .

    CAUTION:

    Refer to Fastener Caution .

    Install the NEW wheel drive shaft nut (1) to the wheel drive shaft (2), and tighten in 3 passes:

    Using a torque wrench, and the CH-49376  holding wrench (1) along with the EN-956-1  extension (2), tighten the wheel drive shaft nut to 150 N.m (111 lb ft).

  12. Using the EN-45059  meter, loosen the wheel drive shaft nut 45 degrees.
  13. Retighten the wheel drive shaft nut to 250 N.m (184 lb ft).
  14. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  15. Lower the vehicle.
