Removal Procedure
Move the folding top in the middle position as shown in the graphic.
- Disconnect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
- Remove the 2 bolts (4) and unclip the 8 clips (2) to remove the folding top front panel (3).
- NOTE:
Loosen the screws (2) not more than two turns.
Loosen the folding top front bow (1).
Remove the 8 bolts (2) then slide the aluminum weather strip retainer left and right (3) out of the folding top frame (1) remove the folding top front aluminum retainer from the weather strip and put aside allow weather strip top to hang loose (4).
Pull out the folding top front stretch rail edge (plastic retainer edge of the top) out of the roof rail front panel.
- Fold the leading edge of the top (1) over the outer edges and unhook both guide cables out of the roof rail front panel.
- Unclip the 6 connectors (2) out from the hooks and remove the folding top headliner from the roof rail front panel.
- Unclip the 6 connectors (2) and remove the folding top outer cover from the roof rail front panel.
Allow the front of the top to relax on the front header and lift the rear folding top frame bow as shown in the graphic.
- Unclip weather strip from the rear tension bow. Leave the left and right side pouched on the folding top frame until further instructions.
- Remove the roof outer cover plastic retainer rail (5) from the rear tension bow (3).
- Remove the headliner plastic retainer rail (1) from the rear tension bow (2).
- Use a piece of masking tape to mark the center of the plastic retainer before removing so that you will know where the middle is when installing on the new top cover. Pull off the headliner plastic retainer rail (6) from the rear window (4).
- Disconnect the 2 electrical connectors from the rear window heating. Remove the 2 wiring harnesses from the roof outer cover cable tunnel.
- Remove the rear window brackets clips (9, 11) to remove the rear window bracket left side (10) and right side (8) from the rear window bracket left side (12) and right side (7).
Move the folding top (2) in the middle position and remove the hanging weather strip (3) left and right side from the folding top frame.
Remove the roof outer cover lateral plastic top retainer rail (4) left and right side from the roof frame (3).
- Note position of tension belt before drilling. Drill out the rivet and remove the tension belt (2) from the folding top frame left and right side.
Remove the guide cables left side (3) and right side (1) from the folding top front panel left side (4) and right side (2) and remove the guide cables out of the folding top outer cover cable tunnel (5).
- NOTE:
Pull very carefully and equally.
Remove the folding top outer cover from the folding top frame. Slide the 4 folding top outer cover fishplates (1) out from the 4 folding top frame brackets (2).
Use the proper eye protection when drilling to prevent metal chips from causing physical injury.
Proper rivet hole size is critical to ensure rivet retention. Always confirm the correct drill bit size before drilling the holes. Failure to ensure proper rivet retention may result in oversized holes which could cause damage or misalignment of the folding top.
