Installation Procedure
Carefully file down each edge (1) of the roof rails (2) on the side you're going to slide the cover into. The sharp edge may cause the "fishtail" to scrape and become difficult to start.
Install the folding top outer cover to the folding top frame. Slide the 4 folding top outer cover fishplates (1) in the 4 folding top frame rails (2).
Install the guide cables left side (3) and right side (1) to the folding top outer cover cable tunnel (5) and install the guide cables to the folding top front panel left side (4) and right side (2). Once the cables are in place cover the square side of the cable with very thin tape such as packing tape. Thick tape will show through the top skin.
Move the folding top in the front position and lift the rear folding top frame bow as shown in the graphic.
- Install the rear window to the rear window brackets left side (12) and right side (7) and install the 2 clips (9, 11).
- Center the top using the center chalk mark underneath the canvas top where the top of the rear window would be. Clip in the folding top outer cover plastic retainer rail on edge of top (5) in the rear tension bow (3). Start in the middle and move outside. Use a trim stick (bone) to push retainer into groove.
Move the folding top in the middle position and clip in the folding top front stretch rail in the folding top front panel.
- Pull the folding top outer cover (1) over both outer edges.
- Install the folding top outer cover to the roof rail front panel groove in the front header bow and hang the material over 6 hooks (2).
- Install the folding top headliner to the folding top front panel (header bow) and hang over the 6 hooks (2).
Move the folding top in the front position. Install carefully the roof outer cover lateral plastic retainer rail (4) left and right side to the roof frame (3) left and right side.
- Move the folding top in the middle position and install the tension belt (2) left and right side to the folding top frame (1) left and right side. Install the 2 NEW rivets.
Remove the folding top rear side rail link trim cover (1) by pulling straight up. Install the weather strip (2) to the left and right side of the folding top frame lateral left and right side. For the rear weather strip to the rear tension bow wait until further instructions.
Move the folding top to the front position and lift the rear folding top frame bow as shown in the graphic.
- Install the 2 wiring harnesses rear window heating to the folding top outer cover cable tunnel.
- Connect the 2 connectors to the rear window defogger.
- Install the folding top headliner plastic retainer rail (6) to the rear window edge (4).
- Install the headliner plastic retainer rail around the rear window, attaching the headliner to the rear glass. Center the headliner material on the rear glass using the mark you previously made on the headliner plastic retainer rail.
- Install the folding top headliner plastic retainer rail (1) to the rear tension bow (2).
- Install the rear weather strip to the rear tension bow.
- Install the folding top rear side rail link trim cover.
Apply butyl tape to the folding top cover.
- 200 mm butyl tape (1)
- 50 mm butyl tape (2)
Apply butyl tape to the folding top cover front sealing.
- 200 mm butyl tape (1)
- 50 mm butyl tape (2)
Install the folding top front cover bow (1).
- Tighten the screws (2) to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
Move the folding top to the middle position. Install the folding top front weather strip retainer (3) including the rest of the weather strip (4) left and right side. Slide the weather strip (4) left and right side in the folding top frame (1) left and right side. Install the 8 bolts (2) and tighten to 9N.m (80 lb in).
Install the folding top front panel (3) to the folding top frame (1). Clip in 8 clips (2) and install the 2 bolts (4) and tighten to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
- Connect the battery negative cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
- Open and close the folding top for a functional check.
Pull very carefully and equally.
Notice that one of the fishplates is shorter than the other three, this one goes in last.
Make sure the rear window defogger leads from the glass are positioned through the recess in the glass edge.
