Brake Master Cylinder Reservoir Replacement

WARNING:

Refer to Brake Fluid Irritant Warning .

WARNING:

Use of eye goggles is necessary to prevent personal injury.

Preliminary Procedure

  1. Remove and discard the brake fluid from the master cylinder reservoir.
  2. Remove dash upper extension panel opening cover. Refer to Dash Upper Extension Panel Opening Cover Replacement .
1 Brake Fluid Level Indicator Switch

Procedure

  1. Disconnect electrical connector.
  2. Twist level indicator clockwise and remove upwards.
2 Master Cylinder Reservoir Bolt
CAUTION:

Refer to Fastener Caution .


Tighten 
2.5 N.m (22 lb in)
3 Master Cylinder Reservoir

Procedure

  1. If equipped, disconnect clutch master cylinder reservoir hose.
  2. Inspect the master cylinder for damage and replace, if necessary.
  3. Clean the reservoir with denatured alcohol.
  4. Dry the reservoir with filtered, non-lubricated compressed air.
4 Master Cylinder Reservoir Seal (Qty: 2)
  1. Lubricate the seals and the reservoir bayonets with brake fluid. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers  for the recommended brake fluid.
  2. After repairs or replacement bleed the hydraulic brake system and the hydraulic clutch system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding .
