Installation Procedure
Ensure that the steering column dash seal is installed properly onto steering gear rack pinion housing. The sealing lip MUST rest on lower steering column cover surface evenly. To ease installation of the seal, apply liquid soap to the sealing lip. After installation, verify that the seal lip does not protrude into the vehicle's interior. Improper installation could result in poor sealing performance and water intrusion into the vehicle.
Install the steering column dash outer seal (1) to steering gear. Make sure that the notch in the steering column dash outer seal (1) is correctly aligned to the nose on the steering gear.
When re-installing the steering gear and front suspension frame, make sure the steering column dash outer seal (1) sealing lip is fitted properly. The steering column dash outer seal (1) must not protrude into the vehicle's interior.
- The steering column dash outer seal (1) is fitted correctly, when the sealing lip is compressed to the bulkhead (2). Check that the steering column dash outer seal (1) does not protrude into the interior when connecting the steering gear pinion (4) and the intermediate steering shaft (3).
- If the steering column dash outer seal (1) is not fitted properly and/or protrudes into the interior, the positioning has to be corrected.
- Re-install the front suspension frame and steering gear. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement .
- Install the steering column dash inner seal. Refer to Steering Column Dash Inner Seal Replacement .
