Strut, Strut Component, or Spring Replacement (With FE5 Magnetic Ride Suspension)

Preliminary Procedure 
Strut Assembly Removal and Installation (Without F55 Magnetic Ride Suspension) Strut Assembly Removal and Installation (With F55 Magnetic Ride Suspension) 
1 Front Suspension Strut Nut
WARNING:

Do not attempt to remove the retaining nut from the strut piston shaft before compressing the spring. Failure to comply with this requirement may result in serious personal injury.

WARNING:

The spring compressor must have a minimum capacity of 1000 kg (2205 lb). Failure to comply with this requirement may result in serious personal injury.

CAUTION:

Refer to Fastener Caution .


Procedure 
Compress the front coil spring and remove the front suspension strut nut.
Tighten 
75 N.m (55 lb ft)
2 Front Suspension Strut Washer
3 Front Suspension Strut Mount
4 Front Suspension Strut Mount Retainer
5 Front Suspension Strut Mount Bearing
6 Front Suspension Strut Shield Strap
Procedure 
DISCARD the strap.
7 Front Spring Upper Seat
Procedure 
Mark the front spring upper seat in relation to the front suspension strut.
8 Front Spring Upper Insulator
9 Front Coil Spring
NOTE:
  • If installing a replacement front coil spring, check that the spring is the correct type for the suspension system fitted to the vehicle. Identification of the front coil spring fitted to a particular vehicle can be achieved by cross-referencing the two digit code provided on the production identification tag with the data in the fastener tightening specifications table. Installing the incorrect front coil spring may adversely affect the wheel alignment and/or the ride and handling characteristics of the vehicle.
  • The front spring upper insulator and front spring upper seat have a step which aligns with the straight projecting end of the front coil spring. The steps MUST be correctly orientated in relation to the front coil spring.
  • When installing the front coil spring, the correct alignment of the spring with the front suspension strut requires the mark on the front spring upper seat to be 180 degrees to the clevis on the front suspension strut.

Procedure 
DISCARD the strap.

12 Front Spring Lower Insulator
