Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Install a NEW valve stem oil seal (2). Use a suitable tool (1).

    NOTE: Be careful, that the valve stem oil seals do not deform while the installation procedure.
  2. Install the exhaust valve spring (1) or the intake valve spring (3) and the upper valve spring retainer (2). Which valve spring is installed, depends on the installation progress.

    NOTE: Examine that the valve springs and the valve spring retainers will be installed in their original position.
  3. Scale the valve spring (3), including the upper valve spring retainer (2) down and install the valve keys (1). Use a suitable tool and a bit of grease for the installation.

    NOTE: The demounting piece must be applied parallel to the valve spring retainers to prevent damage to the tools or the valve train components.
  4. Repeat the procedure on the remaining 3 valves from cylinder 2.
  5. Transfer the EN-51150  compression/ pressure adapter
    1. Interrupt the compressed air feed.
    2. Remove the adapter from cylinder 2.
    3. Install the adapter to cylinder 3.
    4. Apply compressed air to cylinder 3.
  6. Repeat the valve stem oil seal remove and installation procedure for cylinder 3.
  7. Interrupt the compressed air feed.
  8. Install the engine front lower cover (1) to the engine block.

  9. Install 4 engine front lower cover bolts (1) handtighten.

  10. Install the crankshaft balancer absorber (2).

  11. Install the crankshaft balancer absorber bolt (1).
  12. Turn the crankshaft clockwise 180 degrees to the ignition TDC position of cylinder 2.
  13. Transfer the EN-51150  compression/ pressure adapter from cylinder 3 to cylinder 1.
  14. Repeat the valve stem oil seal remove and installation procedure for cylinder 1 and cylinder 4.
  15. Remove the EN-51150  compression/pressure adapter from cylinder 4.
  16. Turn the crankshaft clockwise 180 degrees to the ignition TDC position of cylinder 1.
  17. Remove the crankshaft balancer absorber bolt.
  18. Remove the crankshaft balancer absorber.
  19. Remove the 4 engine front lower cover bolts.
  20. Remove the engine front lower cover.
  21. Remove the EN-49074  valve spring compressor including the EN-49155  demounting piece from the cylinder head.
  22. Remove the EN-51511  plug from the fuel injector bore.
  23. Install the timing chain. Refer to Camshaft Timing Chain Replacement .
  24. Install the 16 hydraulic valve lash adjuster arms. Refer to Hydraulic Valve Lash Adjuster Arm Replacement .
  25. Install the 4 spark plugs. Refer to Spark Plug Replacement .
