Installation Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Carefully clean the engine front cover sealing surfaces.
  2. Apply approximately a 3 mm (0.12 in) thick bead of sealant to the flange (1) and bolt hole (2) of the engine front cover (3). In the areas marked with circles, the sealant width must be increased to 4 mm (0.16 in) in order to prevent leaks. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants and Sealers

    NOTE:
    • The engine front cover surface must be free of contamination prior to applying the sealer.
    • Additional sealant is necessary to reduce the possibility of leakage where the engine oil pan, engine front cover and engine block mate.
    • Install and align the cover within 20 minutes of applying the sealer.
    • The cover must be fastened to final torque specification within 60 minutes of applying the sealer.
  3. Engine Front Cover (1) - Install

  4. Engine Front Cover Bolt (1) - Install and tighten 55 N.m (41 lb ft)

    CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .
  5. Engine Front Cover Bolt (2) - Install and tighten [9x] 10 N.m (89 lb in)
  6. Engine Front Cover Bolt (3) - Install and tighten 25 N.m (18 lb ft)
  7. Crankshaft Balancer Absorber Replacement  - Install
  8. Engine Front Cover Replacement - Upper  - Install
