Engine Front Cover Installation - Upper

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Clean the engine upper front cover sealing surfaces.
  2. Apply approximately a 3 mm (0.12 in) thick bead of sealant (1, 3) to the engine upper front cover (2). In the marked areas the width has to be broadened to 4 mm (0.16 in) in order to prevent leakages. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants and Sealers  for the recommended sealant.

    NOTE: The complete installation procedure of the upper engine front cover and the engine mount bracket must be fitted within 10 minutes of applying the sealing compound. DO NOT coat sealing compound into the engine upper front cover bolt bores and threads.
  3. Apply additional sealant (1, 2) to the transitions between the cylinder head and the cylinder block in the shown areas (approximately 4 mm (0.16 in) thick bead of sealant).

  4. Install the engine upper front cover (1) at first to the engine lower front cover (3) and then to the cylinder head (2).

    NOTE: Position the engine upper front cover exactly to the engine lower front cover bores.
  5. Install at first the 3 engine front cover bolts (2) and tighten to 10 N.m (89 lb in).

    CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .
    NOTE: Mind the different bolt lengths.
  6. Install the engine front cover bolt (1) and tighten to 35 N.m (26 lb ft).
  7. Install the 7 engine front cover bolts (1) and tighten to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
