Crankshaft and Bearing Removal

EN-571 - B Dial Gauge
For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools .
- Remove the 2 long lower crankcase bolts (1).
- Remove the 8 short lower crankcase bolts (2).
- Loosen the 10 lower crankcase bolts in the sequence as shown.
- Remove and DISCARD the 10 lower crankcase bolts (2).
- Loose the lower crankcase (1) from the engine block, use a suitable tool.
- Remove the lower crankcase (1).
- Clean the sealing surfaces.
- Install the EN-571-B
gauge (2) along with the bracket (1) to the timing side of the engine block.
NOTE: The check is conducted with the crankshaft bearing shells installed in the cylinder block and the flywheel removed. The crankshaft is only loosely fitted in the cylinder block.
- If the value for the crankshaft axial play does not correspond with the permissible axial play, regrind the crankcase seat and use a suitable oversize thrust bearing. For oversize thrust bearings, refer to Engine Mechanical Specifications .
- Measure the crankshaft axial play. For permissible axial play, refer to Engine Mechanical Specifications .
- Remove the 5 crankshaft lower bearings (1) from the lower crankcase (2).
NOTE: Mark the installation position. Set aside in order removed.
- Remove the crankshaft (1).
- Remove the 4 crankshaft upper bearings (2).NOTE: Mark the installation position. Set aside in order removed.
- Remove the crankshaft thrust upper bearing (4).NOTE: The second crankshaft bearing from the transmission side contains the thrust bearing.
