Hybrid/EV Battery Pack Cooling System Description and Operation
The hybrid/EV battery pack cooling system uses a 12 V hybrid/EV battery pack cooling fan (3) to circulate air through the high voltage hybrid/EV battery and over the 14V power module. The hybrid/EV powertrain control module 2 monitors the hybrid/EV battery cell temperature sensors. The hybrid/EV powertrain control module 2 determines how much hybrid/EV battery cooling is required and turns on the hybrid/EV battery pack cooling fan. The hybrid/EV battery pack cooling system could be activated when the vehicle is OFF and maintaining the hybrid/EV battery pack temperature. Refer to Automatic HVAC Description and Operation .
The hybrid/EV battery pack cooling fan draws passenger cabin air from vents located beneath the rear seats (1). The air is directed through the front of the hybrid/EV battery pack and across the battery cells exhausting at the rear. Another series of ducts directs the air exiting the hybrid/EV battery pack across the 14V Power Module, through the cooling fan and out into the rear compartment of the vehicle (2). Both the inlet and exhaust ducts must remain clear of obstructions to prevent overheating.
