Draining Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
WARNING: When the transmission is at operating temperatures, take necessary precautions when removing the drain plug, to avoid being burned by draining fluid.
NOTE: The fluid plug at the front of transmission must not be removed. Prior to the removing of any plug, clean the surrounding area of the plug.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .

  2. If equipped, remove the front compartment air deflector. Refer to Front Compartment Air Deflector Replacement .
  3. Remove and DISCARD the fluid drain plug (1).
    NOTE: DO NOT re-use the fluid drain plug.
  4. Drain the transmission fluid into a suitable and clean container.
  5. Let the transmission fluid drain for 10 minutes and record the transmission fluid amount.
    NOTE: This transmission is NOT equipped with a fluid level dipstick or oil level setting plug. The fluid level can only be checked by draining and filling procedure.
  6. Inspect the fluid for excessive metal particles or other debris which may indicate transmission damage. Perform any necessary repairs. Change the transmission fluid if no other conditions are found.
  7. Install the NEW fluid drain plug (1) with thread sealing compound on the plug threads and tighten to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).
    CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .
    NOTE: Apply thread locking compound to the plug. DO NOT re-use the old plug.
  8. If equipped, install the front compartment air deflector, refer to Front Compartment Air Deflector Replacement .
