Learn Procedure

NOTE: The Crankshaft Position Reluctor Wheel Learn procedure may have to be performed up to 5 times before the procedure completes successfully.

Ignition OFF, verify all vehicle systems are OFF. This may take up to 2 minutes.
Ignition ON, verify no DTC other than P0315 is set.
- If a DTC is set other than P0315
  Refer to Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) List - Vehicle .
- If a DTC is not set other than P0315 or a component has been replaced
Clear all DTCs using the scan tool.
Perform the Crankshaft Position Reluctor Wheel Learn procedure with a scan tool.
Perform the Command Reset-Crankshaft Position Reluctor Wheel Learn procedure.
Verify the command state parameter is in Learn mode.
Engine at operating temperature, test drive the vehicle.
Select a smooth section of roadway to safely perform the following steps:
NOTE: If trouble is encountered when trying to achieve engine speed between 1, 000-3, 500 RPM at 45 MPH, placing the transmission selector in 4th gear may assist in completing the Learn procedure.
- Accelerate to 45 MPH
- Transmission in Drive or 4th Gear
- Engine Speed between 1, 000-3, 500 RPM
When traffic conditions permit, release the accelerator pedal and allow the vehicle to coast down for 20 s.
Verify the scan tool Crankshaft Position Variation Learn Status - Engine Speed 1 parameter displays Complete.
NOTE: The scan tool Crankshaft Position Variation Learn Status parameter will display Active while the procedure is running.
- If parameter does not display Complete
  Repeat starting at step 4 above.
- If parameter displays Complete
